Bandits Roll Past First City

Taylor Genuser passed for 227 yards and four touchdowns Saturday night while leading the Sioux City Bandits to an 80-0 rout over First City Calvary in an exhibition indoor football game at the Tyson Events Center.

Coach Erv Strohbeen’s squad scored 27 points in the first quarter with touchdowns coming on offense, defense and special teams. Jeffrey Mack returned the opening kickoff 50 yards for a touchdown, while Drew Prohaska’s three-yard scoring run was followed by Jemichael Williams’ 39-yard interception return.

Genuser fired his first touchdown pass with 35 seconds left the first quarter, a 14-yarder to Maurice Young. Zach Ely caught a 37-yard touchdown pass in the Bandits’ 26-point second quarter while the squad’s 14-point third quarter included touchdown receptions of 25 yards to Anthony Eboreime and a seven-yarder to Young.

Mack’s 120-yard rushing performance included a 35-yard touchdown in the second quarter. Mack averaged 17.1 yards on seven carries while Dominique Carson’s 10-carry, 84-yard rushing night included touchdown runs of one and five yards in the fourth quarter.

Eboreime’s 17-yard touchdown run in the second quarter was part of a night where the Bandits posted an overwhelming 472-34 advantage in total offense.

Jon Smith paced the Bandits defensively with six tackles while Zac Schleuger’s five tackles included two tackles for loss. James Cash had five tackles and a quarterback sack.

Denzel Adams collected two interceptions while DeWayne Autrey II and Cliff Stokes each added one interception.

Ely and Mack each recorded one fumble recovery for the Bandits, who will open the regular season Saturday night against the Omaha Beef.
