Bandits top Ice in opener

LOVELAND, Colo. -- The Sioux City Bandits downed the Colorado Ice 48-38 in an Indoor Football League opener at the Budweiser Events Center here Saturday night.

James McNear accounted for 238 of the Bandits' 254 yards and five touchdowns in his first game as a Bandit. McNear, a former Omaha Beef quarterback, completed 17 of 26 passes for 165 yards and three touchdowns and carried eight times for 73 yards and two scores.

The Bandits defense limited Colorado to 48 total yards in the second half. McNear scored the game-clinching touchdown with 2:32 left on a two-yard run.

The game was tied 25-25 at halftime.

"That was a great win and I'm kind of emotional about it because they've been practicing hard the last three weeks," said first-year Bandits' Coach Tommie Williams. "We got a win on the road and I'm happy with that, but there are some things we have to shore up.

"We had a good conversation at halftime and told them to relax and turn it up a little bit. They started having fun out there."

T.J. Williams had seven receptions for 91 yards and two touchdowns.

The Bandits play Green Bay in their home opener on Saturday.
